Quit the Habit!

'A custom loathsome to the eye, hateful to the nose, harmful to the brain, dangerous to the lungs, and, in the black, stinking fume thereof, nearest resembling the horrible Stygian smoke of the pit that is bottomless.'
King James I, A Counterblast to Tobacco (1604)

Whatever your primary reason for wanting to quit, how much do you really want to give up? If, on a scale of 1 to 10, you are not at 8, 9 or 10 then maybe you're not ready to kick the habit just yet - Stop Smoking!!and despite what you may have been led to believe by subtle tobacco company advertising, that's what it is: a habit. Smoking is not a way of life nor an addiction.

Whether your reasons for starting to smoke, continuing with the habit, or wanting to quit, Gower Therapies can help you to kick the habit. Smoking is a learned and maintained habit; it can therefore be un-learned. The average cigarette contains over 4,000 toxic chemicals including 69 known carcinogens - it only makes sense to quit!

The typical smoking cessation programme will involve a combination of increasing your awareness of the habit and then removing that habit via hypnotic suggestion. One-session stop smoking programmes can be effective, however, I believe that the psychological attachment to cigarettes can be stronger than many therapists realise. Gower Therapies quit smoking programme is run over two to three sessions to increase effectiveness.

'Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little ... the study statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 people from America, Scandinavia and elsewhere.'
